Since 1970 the Italian family business Raineri has been producing first-class olive oils and has ever since had its headquarter in the Italian city of La Valletta in Liguria, 250 m above sea level and only few kilometres from the sea. The olive trees, which are now more than 100 years old, grow on calcareous, stony and compact soil, completely unprotected against the Maritime Alps in the North which are not far away. In order to enable the air to circulate, the most popular types Taggiasca and Gentile are planted in a chequered pattern.
Taggiasca olives are one of the most valuable and smoothest olives and are the typical Liguarian ones. They are small and quite unimpressive, but a delicately smelling, tender olive oil is made from them which gourmets all over the world call “The Gold of Liguria”.
The hand-harvested olives are traditionally cold-pressed in stone mills and are further processed in natural, gentle methods. The virgin olive oils Extra which are produced in this proceeding are of an intensive yellow-green colour and have the typical scent of green, bitter almonds.
